Valerie Viale has devoted her life to raising awareness about Lyme Disease and its Co-Infections. She started Band Aid Lyme, LLC, a Social Enterprise Company, in 2021, with the intention of assisting United States-based Lyme Disease-affiliated non-profit organizations to fundraise for Lyme Disease research and awareness advocacy.
Valerie contracted Lyme Disease in the New England area (near Boston) in 2017 and has traveled the world to undergo life-saving procedures to regain her "life" again. She has made significant progress. Valerie is from Boston, Massachusetts, and holds a Master of Divinity Degree from Boston University, a Master of Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine University School of Law in Los Angeles, a Juris Doctorate Degree from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, a Master of Urban Affairs from Boston University, and she also studied Urban Social Enterprises at Boston University. |

Dr. Enid Haller
Advisory Board Dr. Enid Haller is the former Executive Director of The Lyme Center of Martha’s Vineyard, an island off the coast of Massachusetts, which is a free walk-in information service center for Lyme and tick-borne infections, and she ran the Martha’s Vineyard Lyme Support Group for many years. Dr. Haller holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology and a Master of Social Work Degree from Fordham University and is a New York state-licensed clinical social worker.
Dr. Haller suffered for at least ten years before finally being diagnosed with Lyme Disease and Babesiosis in 2009. Her condition advanced deeply into the chronic phase and she accumulated a complex of afflictions including cataracts, hyperthyroidism, knee and heart issues, severe depression, anxiety, debilitating chronic neck pain, and brain fog. Her daughter and husband also became ill due to Lyme Disease and associated Co-Infections. Dr. Haller, now on the mend, is dedicating her recovery to helping others recognize Lyme Disease symptoms and seek timely treatment for their tick-borne infections. She is a significant and highly-respected advocate for the Lyme community in the US and beyond, and has advocated for Lyme patients in various political platforms, such meeting with Senators and others, as well as contributing to Lyme Disease "working groups." Dr. Haller has devoted her life to helping Lyme victims and advocating for Lyme Disease patients' rights. |
Dr. James Schaller
Advisory Board Dr. James Schaller has passionately and compassionately treated Lyme Disease patients for about 30 years. He still treats patients out of his Naples, Florida office, and over the phone. He also serves as a consultant to other physicians, researchers, and scientists on tick-borne infections. He has dedicated the greater part of his life to researching the latest treatments. Dr. Schaller has written 13 books on Lyme and Co-Infections (Tick Borne Infections), including 6 books on Babesia, a 2 Volume collection on Bartonella, and he has written 28 peer-reviewed papers in over 10 specialties in top medical journals. He continues his research and writing with his devoted assistant and fellow researcher, Kimberly Mountjoy. Born in Paris, France, he is married, a father, and is a U.S. Citizen.

Tommy Farnsworth
Advisory Board Tommy Farnsworth was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in 2010. After years of struggling, he was referred to the Dean Center for Tick-Borne Illness (click here for more info) in 2017 in Massachusetts, and his healing journey has only progressed since then. Going through Lyme Disease treatment has been major life-changing experience for Tommy. Now that he is feeling well again, Tommy focuses his free time on actively advocating and giving back to the Lyme Community in any way that he can. He is a certified peer mentor with the Global Lyme Alliance and aspires to provide hope, reflection, and inspiration to those who are in need.
Tommy joined the Ride Out Lyme, LLC (click here for more info) team (a United States-based non-profit that raises money for Lyme Disease patients/treatments) as Grants Director in the Summer of 2019. Since then, he has taken on the role of Ride Out Lyme’s Executive Director. Looking forward to working closely with the Lyme community, building strategic partnerships, and supporting Ride Out Lyme’s core values and initiatives by fostering collaborative partnerships with philanthropic organizations to raise funds used to provide treatment, wellness, and support programs for Lyme patients and their caregivers. Tommy believes that the ultimate gift in his life is to be able to help Lyme Disease patients and their families navigate their financial challenges faced by the treatment of Lyme Disease, as he can relate to this challenge first-hand. |
Dr. Kelly Henderson, PharmD
Advisory Board *Deceased on May 20th, 2022 due to Lyme Disease Complications*
Dr. Kelly Henderson received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Purdue University in 1997. While practicing as a community pharmacist, she obtained credentialing in asthma disease management from the North Carolina Center for Pharmaceutical Care in 1998, followed by national certification in 2000. Dr. Henderson has also been certified as a Master Trainer in The Stanford Chronic Disease Self-Management Program, and has completed specialty training in Medication Therapy Management with APhA and ASCP, and Pain Management training with ASHP. Dr. Henderson also served as Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Chronic Pain Management at Richard L. Roudebush VAMC. In this role, she served on both the Roudebush and Regional VA pain committees. Her daily duties included direct patient care responsibilities in primary, secondary and tertiary level chronic pain care models, as well as, responsibility for chronic pain medication management consultations and chart review. Dr. Henderson previously directed Medicaid managed care clinical programs and the largest Medicaid Managed Care pharmacy benefit program in the State of Indiana. While in this role, she gained critical training and insight into the psycho-social implications of chronic disease, including chronic pain. She was a leader in the redesign, pilot and implementation of her states Right Choices Program (RCP), which provides increased monitoring and case management for chronic pain patients in support of their primary care providers. Active in pharmacy for 20+ years, Dr. Henderson has been at the forefront of the provision of chronic disease management services to a wide sector of indigent patients. She has practiced at the county, state, and federal levels of government funded healthcare programs. She has authored, co-authored, and facilitated almost 100 patient and provider educational tools. She has participated in the design and redesign of facility, and state run programs. Now, Dr. Henderson would like to help other Lyme sufferers, like herself, to regain their respective lives and vitality. |
Dr. Rodolfo Garcia Contreras
Advisory Board Dr. Rodolfo García Contreras is an Associate Professor at the Microbiology and Parasitology Department at the Faculty of Medicine at the National Autonomous University of México (UNAM) (click here for more info). UNAM is a very highly-respected research university in Latin America.
Dr. Contreras obtained his PhD in Biomedical Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine UNAM in Mexico in 2005. There, he studied the bioenergetics of photosynthetic bacteria, and completed two postdoctoral positions. The first postdoctoral position he completed was at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University, with Professor Thomas K. Wood, working on the genetic basis of biofilm formation in Escherichia coli. The second postdoctoral position he completed was at the Molecular Cell Physiology Department at the VU University of Amsterdam, with researchers Fred Boogerd and Hans Westerhoff, working on E. coli central carbon and nitrogen metabolism from a systems biology perspective. In 2010, Dr. Contreras returned to Mexico and joined the Biochemistry Department of the National Institute of Cardiology as an Assistant Professor, beginning his career as independent researcher. Currently, his research is centered on the study of Pseudomonas aeruginosa virulence, quorum sensing, quorum quenching and resistance against novel anti-microbials. He also studies the production and exploitation of public goods using the same bacterial model, drug repurposing for combating multi- drug resistant P. aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii strains, and phage therapy. He has coauthored 70 per-reviewed publications and has around 2700 citations to his works and is member of the editorial boards of Frontiers in Microbiology, Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology and Diversity. |
Edward Elbel
Advisory Board Edward ("Cole") Elbel resides in Chicago, Illinois, and works as a financial advisor. He helps people all over the United States with their financial planning needs. He also assists Lyme-affiliated non-profits and other companies with their financial planning needs and assists them with fundraising and financial strategies to expand their business operations. Edward is a Lyme sufferer himself, and understands the financial stressors that Lyme patients and their families face to treat Lyme. As such, he is passionate about helping individuals and families with their financial planning needs, especially when it comes to Lyme Disease!
